Bonus: How I ink a sketch

I thought I would break with the usual daily doodle to share a video today.  I have had a number of comments and emails from people asking how I do my doodles so i thought the best way would be to show you.

The drawing is called Black Bubbles and I am currently trying to find an A3 scanner so I can scan it in and post it in more detail.

    Nice and simple composition, the video, not the complex artwork. I was getting hypnotized by the music, imagining myself on a sunny windowsill with or as a fluffy white cat. This may sound silly, but were those lollies/candies you put on your drawing or some kind of ink pots? Cuz they went by so fast, and it almost looked like you dipped your pen in one (but you didn’t use the other colors).

    Cripes, aren’t A3 scanners a tad expensive? But, I guess, if you’re already a well-paid professional….

      I’m glad you like it. They were sweets, fruit gums to be exact. for a big drawing like this I need something to keep me going 🙂

      They are really expensive, I haven’t yet managed to find one I am confident will work with my mac for under £1,000

        Brain food, I suppose, like a massage to the gray matter.

        I watched a video and read a book about making comic books (with input from THE Stan Lee), and the scanner did not sound affordable nor practical. I also didn’t care for the idea of cutting a big piece into pieces and scanning them separately before assembling the pieces digitally. I think the shorter route is to either take a picture with a camera and settle for that or wait til we are in business with a place that has an A3.

    have you ever heard of speedball with an organic or at least an indian ink for that matter. I used to use these back in 1997 when i was still experimenting in pencil, ink and watercolor.

    Love the line-work and unique directional shading! Really gives it an old-school minimalist Egyptian vibe, except more refined and deliberate.

    The video was an awesome touch and you edited it very well. It’s interesting seeing it inked after being sketched. I usually go the opposite way and go from ink to pencil/shading to paint (if I’m going to paint it).

    PMU, have you tried one of the office supply stores like Office Depot, Staples or even UPS. Not sure they can scan that big, but someone’s bound to. I also looked up where to scan an A3 and got these suggestions via Google (using an A4 scanner) https://www.google.com/search?q=where+to+scan+an+A3&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari .

    Finally, what I do with most of my art now is use a good camera and take a bunch of shots & see if one does it justice, lol!

    What I have gathered from your video and most of your works, old and new is that you have always been comfortable experimenting with ideas and trying something not seen or exposed by pop-culture. At least that is what I would have said about your style and how you draw. You find a space of quite and build from there, but I could be so wrong it is not even funny. lol
