Questions I was asked

What inspires you to blog?

Actually I was inspired by my good friend Paul (a fantastic writer, director and maker of things – if you live in SE England then I thoroughly encourage you to check out his work with Broken Silence Theatre) to start the doodle blog. I have been drawing and doodling since I could hold a pen, but was always a bit shy to show anyone. He had a look and encouraged me to do something with them, so I started Daily Doodle. What keeps me blogging is the warm reception I have received from day one, along with seeing the amazing work of other artists with WordPress sites. There is amazing community of very talented people and if I feel myself starting to take a creative schlump, I just have a poke around the reader.

What would your advice to new bloggers be?

Blog about something you enjoy or would be doing anyway. You will find it easier to be authentic and consistent if you are blogging about something that comes naturally to you. Also take some time and find your voice. When you first start out it can feel a bit like shouting into a void. If you find your voice, it’s easier to sing, and the void doesn’t seem so big after all.

If you had to start over, what would you do differently regarding your blog.

I would probably have spent more time looking around at what was out there and deciding on the look of my blog before making it live. In the first few days I was making constant changes and worrying that everyone would be confused by that. Although to be fair I didn’t have a lot of readers then, so probably would have made too much of a difference.
